mike, i know it sucks. i'm truly lucky my girlfriend has fibromyalgia so she's seen how the medical profession can be totally ignorant about a major illness because of lack of evidence or treatment. in fact, she was the first person i've heard ever say "if he looks at you blankly and starts filling out a perscription just walk out of the office". what sound advice.
the mantra "it's all in your head" was created along with other sayings like "every cloud has a silver lining", etc., so people like us wouldn't get pissed and kill the messenger with a shovel. not only does it make people angrier, it makes it all the easier for doctor's to refer you to yet another specialist when it's obviously a physical ailment. the idea that this is mental is just evidence of poor judgement and lack of research (in an area there's barley any, thanks doc!). if i have a drawback from a mental condition, it's going to be shooting my urologist.
i would suggest taking a schedule of herbs and a multivitamin with lycopene. these are the only remedies we know have an affect so far. well, other than a chinese herb tea and a fenugreek tea remedy that taste akin to athlete's foot.
i'm finally down to just taking fenugreek, bromelain and a muiltivitamin, which is just 9 pills a day. that's down from like 30.
do i feel better? er, yeah, but i'm not going to brag or run after the bus or the like for reasons bill mentioned. i can say it gets better with time and i know that goes along with the aforementioned cliche's, but in this case it's actually true . . .
take the pill herbs, by the way, unless you go with the chinese herb remedy for which there is no substitute. i know there's something about the tea that's supposed to be better and if my hippy-dippy girlfriend was here she'd love to give me the reasons why, in detail, but don't torture yourself (or me). they just taste BAAAAAAD! ever gone to the locker room of any major nfl team and drank the sweat wrung from their uniforms? your getting close . . .

cheers
dm
