He was a regular M.D., the general practitioner I saw for everything back then. I had a terrible infection in the lymph nodes in my right armpit that didn't respond to oral antibiotics, so when I went back to him for a checkup, he jumped right onto the phone and called the hospital to tell them to expect me there shortly to start receiving IV antibiotics for a few days and to schedule surgery to have the nodes totally removed if it didn't start getting any better.

As he got off the phone, I apparently looked terribly upset and distraught, so I guess he was trying to lighten up such a dire situation with a little humor. Believe it or not, I guess he thought he was giving me a *compliment* as he patted me on the back and said, "It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy"...
