There is a point at which, if you haven't yet reached it....exercise of some types, like running such that your reproductive organs would be bouncing all around, would be apt to cause further inflammation problems. It could cause secondary infections, although once your case becomes chronic, that's usually not the problem.
However, once you've reached this point (for me it was somewhere between 5 and 9 months), exercise is going to do you a lot more good than harm, most likely. My running example still could cause you limited problems, but I've found that most gentle exercise -- even cycling, with a properly fitted bike, the right saddle height, riding position, road/trail to ride, etc -- only helps me improve lymph flow, my general health, and destroy inflammatory proteins. In many cases, if you've gotten to the point where it's clear that antibiotics aren't helping, and you're looking for other avenues of treatment....the first and most significant things to look for are inflammation and reproductive/lymph "congestion" -- also a significant cause of chronic groin pain is nerve irritation or damage. If it doesn't hurt too much to do the exercise, you're probably in the clear. As long as you're careful to work around the needs of your EP "injury," exercise is one of the best tools to recovering from it in many cases -- in my opinion. Upper body exercise is good, but I think that long-duration, moderate-intensity aerobic exercise like walking, gentle hiking, cycling, swimming, etc. are also key. Weight lifting can help get you started and fill the gaps between major exercise events, but try for something well-rounded. I have found that as I've gained weight through my early EP inactivity, it seems to complicate the problem by putting pressure on the nerves and lymph nodes/vessels throughout my body at key points. I can tell that my immune, inflammatory, and lymph/mucoidal systems are all out of balance....but this seems to steadily improve now that I have resumed the kind of training regimen I used to employ when I was a professional cyclist as a teenager. I'm not trying to "feel the burn" or push myself to further flood my system with inflammation, injuries, and so forth.....but I find that I can, if I'm careful, ride almost every day for at least an hour and still take several walks a week, go to the public pool/hot tub (our town has a world-class one, and we go on the day they sterilize the whole thing) a few times a month. I have been steadily improving this way and I would recommend it to anyone -- adapted for their own needs, of course. The herbs help, but I think that it is my efforts at general health that are making the most impact on the healing of my EP-related chronic issues... |
