Hey buddy, thanks for the info about this Dr who i was considering going to before you gave this information. "During cystoscopy, the doctor uses a cystoscope to see inside the bladder and urethra. The doctor will also distend or stretch the bladder to its capacity by filling it with a liquid or gas." The whole thing with IC is that they can do all the diagnosing in the world. But in the end when they determine that you have it, guess what? Treatment is very limited. there is a drug called dimethyl sulfoxide which is given by catheter every week for 6 to 8 weeks which may help. (pretty inconvenient) There is an oral drug called Elmiron which they found it to help IC by mistake. The package insert reads that in 150 or so patients tested, 29% responded to treatment. And you have to take it several times daily for AT LEAST 3 months to see any result, if there will be one. To me its such a low percentage of response in such a limited amount of patients that im doubtful about it. Also one side effect is its blood thinning effects which can lead to internal bleeding. Kind of scary.
Basically the bottom line is that if you want to go through such invasive measures to find out you have something that isnt very treatable, it's your call. Theres always the chance that you do have IC and may be one of the lucky ones that responds to one of these treatments. |
