The symptoms can vary for each person as well as each stage of infection, as I can attest to. The degree of infection and specific location of inflammation can cause various pain or functional issues.

My prostitis started with no pain, but problems with frequent urination urges followed by inability to pee. I often felt like I was sitting on a golf ball. This went on for years. Urologists were no help -

In any event, when the infection spread to my right testicle, Iinitially had no pain there, even though it was greatly swollen.

All the above became dramatically worse and very painful as the situation became chronic (due to misdiagnosis by doctors). Nonbacterial prostatitis is a misnomer, the term used should be "unknown cause".

Repeated thirty day doses of antibiotics failed to keep the problems at bay. In my case only a six-month self-administered-obtained antibiotics with two weeks of prostate massage finally got rid of the infection. Even so, tissue damage from the infection has left a legacy of some chronic pain in both the prostate and testicle cords. All systemic indications of infection have been gone for years and my life is normal again.

In my case, there is no doubt that prostatitis was the cause of EP. I suspect that is often, if not usually, the case - as the prostatitis may not exhibit any noticeable symptoms initially.
