My infectious diseases doctor is reluctant to give me IV antibiotics at this time. He is thinking I might try augmentin despite my allergy to penicillin - it was a skin rash allergy and he thinks I might be able to tolerate the rash. Zyvox is very effective against enterococcus but you have to take it for at least 3 weeks for prostatitis - I could not tolerate the headaches after about 12 days. At this point, I'm contemplating more drastic treatments, including the direct injection into the prostate advocated by Drs. Guercini, Toth and others. It sounds scary but I'm not sure what else to do at this point. The docs really don't have the time or inclination to spend on us as patients, and it's really up to us to take the initiative and drive the treatments based on the research we do. I've found that the doctors are not able to really research these unusual infections. My urologist took several years before he even thought of suggesting a semen culture.
