I am so pissed off right now! 9 months, 4 Md's, countless office visits, 3 different antibiotics--not ONE md wanted a semen culture. I ask for it based on the knowledge i acquired from this board, the urologist shrugs me off but gives me an rx for the culture. I didn't expect to find anything since i had been on many different antibiotics and as a pharmacist i was pretty sure anything would have been killed with the broad spectrum action of 9 weeks of cipro. I call up twice 2 weeks after the culture, FINALLY just now a nurse calls me back and tells me I am infected with enterococcus! ahhhhhhhhhh! These dr's! So the bottom line is that Ive been suffering all this time and who knows what kind of permanent damage was done in the last 9 months? Only some strains of enterococcus are covered by cipro (not all) and it isn't covered at all by the doxycycline or the bactrim. The scary part is taht i just read that a lot of enterococcus strains are also resistant to the top notch antibiotics that are much newer and expensive. Vancomycin and linezolid ($1000 for 1 10 day course)
So on top of all this, the nurse who calls me back tells me the MD has been away for 2 weeks and she doesn't know how to get in touch with him. She's going to have someone else call me back....I wanna yell at all these dr's let me tell you! I wonder if i have permanent damage or a resistant strange, or if the pain will spread to my left testicle. This is very scary information considering that for the last few months they had me convinced that there was no cause and should be no worry for any damage. Meanwhile I have a really nasty uncommon bug. ARRRRGGGGHHH
