Hi Mike,
My problem first started when I was aged around 19 (now 45 ).It seemed to coincide at a time when I had started to socialise in a big way and consume alcohol, and wear tight fitting clothing, i.e. jeans.
It seemed to start with a lump on my left testis which began to swell. Of course I was shocked, and a rather naieve 19 year old, who feared the worst, convinced I had terminal cancer.
To make matters worse, my doctor was a middle aged woman, and so it took me at least a few days to find the courage to confront her with such an embarassing problem.
When I did finally reach the surgery and told all, she examined me, and told me she thought it was just an infection, but didn't seem overly concerned, although I think she made an appointment at the time for me to see a specialist. However after a ten day course of penicillen everything returned to normal as if nothing had ever happened. And that was the way it was for around the next ten years. Every so often I would get an ACUTE attack, take a ten day course of penicillen and everything would be fine.
If you mean however, when did the ailment first become CHRONIC, well that's another story, and I have posted separately about that. It's in relation to surgery I had in 1988 to remove an epididymis 'cyst' that in the event didn't exist! What was removed was an 'epididymis appendix' that had apparently been present from birth and a varicocele (varicose vein of the spermatic cord ). It is an operation that I have since fiercely regretted having many times!
That's enough about me for now. What I can say Mike, is never ever give up hope of finding an answer. I can assure you there have been many many low times when I cried on 'professional shoulders', metaphorically speaking of course, all for the most part to no avail I'm afraid. I remember on one occasion when I visited a doctor for the umpteenth time as I was speaking to him, he stood with his back towards me gazing out the window!
It was incidents like this, that spurred me on to seek an alternative, a better way, and I had many 'false dawns'on my search, and I feel I found it. The word CURE however needs somewhat re- defining when we speak of this problem. I don't exactly mean I am totally the way I was before the problem started. But gone are the firey flare-ups and me feeling totally out of sorts, weak with little energy. Everything now is very controllable. Controllable being the key word. At the very first sign of mild discomfort I drink Fenugreek / Fennel tea and usually take Bromelain at the same time, and within a few days to a week the discomfort disappears. Of course there are people who will say (mainly the medics)and i'm trying not to be cynical here, "you would probably have grown out of it anyway". "It probably burned itself out". "Time is a great healer". While all of these theories probably have merit in their own right, the trouble with this philosophy is it can neither be proved or disproved!
Returning to yourself Mike, yes, try the Fenugreek/Fennel tea in conjuction with the enzyme Bromelain. And also keep in mind another herb that I find exceptionally useful for this problem Echinacea - builds the immune system to fight infection,a natural 'antibiotic' without the side effects and superior to any orthodox drug. Trust me. All the best.
